You (Yes, YOU!) can be a LinkedIn All-Star!

Did you know that LinkedIn profiles with an All-Star designation are 40x(!) more likely to be found in searches?

All-Star profiles are 100% complete and have at least 50 connections. How can you tell if yours is an All-Star profile?

LinkedIn shows member their own private "profile meter" (it's under Me > View Profile > Suggested For You). No one else can see your meter.

Everyone starts off as a beginner. Once you add all the recommended sections, you’ll receive an All-star profile rating, and the profile level meter will no longer be displayed on your profile.

So - if you can't see the profile meter, you're good! But if you can see it, you can make it disappear by completing these 7 areas:

  1. Add a professional(ish) headshot (smile!).
  2. Complete your work experience section (be sure this aligns with your resume - no discrepancies).
  3. Write a clear, engaging summary (the "About" section).
  4. Update your industry and location (especially if you haven't done this for a couple of years or more, as LinkedIn has realigned these lists to conform to standardized coding).
  5. Add your education. Link to your school (bonus - this opens the door to alumni connections).
  6. List skills (up to 50) and get/give recommendations.
  7. Make connections! - 50 may seem like a lot, but if you draw upon your alumni network, past employers, friends/family, and LinkedIn's suggestions, you'll find it's not that hard to get there.

If you follow these steps, you should see a Big SEO boost.

If you already have these sections filled out, good for you! When was the last time you reviewed them? It's a good idea to give your profile a periodic review.
