What I'm telling my clients about today's job market, and how to stand out

Job Market Report: Still Active, But Super Competitive

If you’re job hunting right now, you may have noticed that it’s a bit tougher out there lately! The U.S. added 139,000 jobs in May, with much of the growth in healthcare, hospitality, and social services. But overall, hiring is slowing, especially in the private sector. Fewer people are actively in the job market, and roles in government (as we know), manufacturing, and construction have stalled.

At the same time, some good news - wages are rising, and companies are still hiring, even if the pace has slowed. But competition is fierce, with recruiters reporting upwards of 100+ applicants for each role posted. Standing out and getting selected is harder than ever.

How I Help Job Seekers in a Tight Market

Job seekers today need more than an AI-generated resume. You need expert advice to help you develop and execute an effective job search strategy. You need a cheerleader and an accountability partner. Here are a few of the ways I can help my clients gain a competitive edge:

  • Showcasing Transferable Skills: I’ll help you identify and highlight the skills you already have that are valuable in today’s job market, even if you’re changing industries or roles
  • Resume and LinkedIn Optimization: Together, we’ll make sure your materials are targeted, up to date, and aligned with what hiring managers and recruiters are actually looking for
  • Networking Strategy: We'll create a personalized plan to help you connect with the right people, even if you’re not sure where to start or hate the idea of “networking”
  • Mindset and Momentum: I’ll support you through the ups and downs, help you set goals, stay focused, and move forward, even if things are taking longer than expected
